Anna Fraser is a 23 year old freelance drummer based in Edinburgh, Scotland.  Originally from the Shetland Islands Anna moved to central Scotland in 2010 to continue her studies and pursue her career as a musician.  Currently in her 4th and final year of BA Popular Music course at Edinburgh Napier University Anna has been involved in many different musical projects throughout the early stages of her career.

In 2013 Anna was recruited by award winning singer/songwriter Erin Bennett to become part of her backing band.  Since then Anna performed on Erin’s 13 track debut solo album “Re-Flowered” as well as joining Erin on a promotional tour of The Netherlands, performing live on RTV Rijnmond and Radio Bevervijk.  Currently the band are preparing for the release of the debut album due out in summer 2015.

More recently Anna has been involved with The Tinderbox Project, an Edinburgh based youth music group that runs several different youth music projects within Edinburgh.  Over the past 6 months Anna has been involved in The Journey of a Thousand Wings Orchestra, The Tinderbox Creative Sessions as a performer, and The Frontiers Orchestra as a team member and apprentice.  Through her performances with these contemporary orchestral groups Anna explored a wide range of styles and genres within her drumming and created inspired drum parts for original pieces written by the groups.

Currently Anna’s most regular gigging outfit is 6-piece wedding and function band Goldstar.  Brought together through the Music for Scotland agency in 2014, Goldstar have been gigging frequently for the past year. Goldstar’s repertoire covers a very broad spectrum of musical genres, calling on Anna’s ability to be able to match the level of skill required to play within each style, for long periods of time. The band are also committed to learning new and up to date material on a regular basis, to which Anna is extremely committed and passionate about.

Although Anna is kept busy by her involvement in various different projects and bands, she is always keen to expand her abilities within session work, teaching and other aspects of her career as a musician. With a quietly confident approach to her playing style, Anna can deliver a very musical performance under many different settings. Her live performance experience has meant that she has played in many styles and sizes of venues, giving her the ability to play to the specific needs of a room and crowd, giving the best possible experience for all involved.

“As Erin Bennett’s producer on the “Re-flowered” album, I had the chance to work with Anna at my favorite studio for recording drums, up in the Highlands of Scotland. The session was a lot of fun. Anna recorded the whole album’s drum tracks in one day: she had thoroughly prepared and practiced for the session. She’s a formidable talent with great feel, timing and consistent attack (a bug-bear of mine). So good, in fact, that I wish I could travel back in time to some other albums I’ve produced and insist that she play the drums instead of the regular guy! She’s also very laid-back and easy to work with; which makes everybody happy and helps the whole groove motor along with a smile.”

F. McGregor, Producer

“I had a great time collaborating with Anna on six experimental music and visual art pieces. Having written all of the material on my Mac, Anna did an amazing job of interpreting the percussive elements and bringing them to the stage with a BANG! I love Anna’s relaxed and intuitive performance style, which helped me to focus on the programming and vocal elements during the gig – it was so much easier knowing the drums were safely in her hands! I would highly recommend Anna as a percussionist for those who don’t know much about drums or those who are worried about translating their digital drum programming into a live environment – she took care of it perfectly and the outcome was an amazing synergy between the two of us as performers and with the gig as a whole. Can’t wait to work with her again!”

ADIKX, Multimedia Performance Artist

“Anna has played in one of the bands that are managed by our agency for the past year.  She came to our attention whilst we were holding auditions at Napier university and it was her technical ability , timing and feel for the drums which stood out  amongst a group of musicians  that were also of a very high standard. Since then Anna has demonstrated great commitment to the band in terms of  attending regular rehearsals and  learning  and recording new material .  She is a team player who is able to adapt quickly to some of the more challenging musical demands of the band which has been pivotal in making  the band the success it is today.”
